OREM, Utah - Air Force junior Clayton Gable (Dallastown, Pa.) has been named the Western Wrestling Conference Co-Wrestler of the Week, as announced today by the league. Gable shares the honor with Northern Iowa's David Bonin. It marks the first career honor for Gable, and the third for an Air Force wrestler this season.
Gable helped Air Force to a second-place finish at the eight-team All-Academy Wrestling Championships last weekend, earning Outstanding Wrestler honors after capturing the individual title at 174 pounds. The fourth-seed in the tournament, Gable claimed the championship in a weight class which featured three wrestlers ranked in this year's initial coaches' rankings.
After opening the day with a fall over his opponent from the Coast Guard Academy, Gable registered a dominant performance over top-seed Matthew Brock of VMI, posting a 9-0 major decision. In the finals, Gable then gutted out a 6-4 decision over The Citadel's Turtogtokh Luvsandorj, who was ranked 19th by InterMat at the time.
The Falcons are off this weekend, but return to action next Sunday, Feb. 19, when they close out their dual slate at conference rival Northern Colorado.
