USAFA, Colo. - Sophomore wrestler Josh Martinez was named the Air Force Co-Athlete of the Week on Feb. 3, after claiming his second-straight All-Academy Championship title on Saturday.
Martinez, a native of Colorado Springs, Colo., took first place at 125 pounds to help lead the Falcons to a third-place finish in the team standings. Martinez, currently ranked fourth in the nation, went 3-0 on the day, recording a pair of falls and a win by medical forfeit.
In his first match of the day, Martinez pinned Norwich's Daniel Lupacchino in a time of 1:18, followed by a fall over Michael Mui (Merchant Marine) in 5:53. He then claimed his second-straight All-Academy title with a medical forfeit by Brendan Campbell of Navy. With his performance, Martinez improves to 28-2 on the season.
Martinez shared Air Force Athlete of the Week honors with men's gymnast Tim Wang, who won five event titles at the All-Academy Championships.
