Air Force Heads to All-Academy Championships

The Air Force wrestling team heads to West Point, N.Y., for the All-Academy Championships this weekend, Feb. 2. The tournament is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. (ET). Live updates from the championship bouts, slated to begin at 5:00 p.m., will be available on Army's website at goARMYsports.com.

About the All-Academy Championships...
The All-Academy Championships, now in their 14th year, feature teams from the service/military academies: Army, Navy, Air Force, The Citadel, Coast Guard, Virginia Military Institute, Merchant Marine Academy and Norwich University. Navy leads the way with seven team titles at the event, including the last four, while Air Force is second with four titles. Army and VMI have each won the tournament twice.

Last Time Out...
The Falcons went 5-1 in six dual meets last weekend, defeating Colorado School of Mines, Utah Valley State, Grand Canyon, Mesa State and New Mexico Highlands, while falling to Western State. Anthony Stegeman (5-0), Jake Kriegbaum (5-0) and Stephen Crozier (4-0) all went undefeated on the weekend for Air Force.

Scouting the Falcons...
Leading Air Force with 20 total wins on the season is junior Stephen Crozier. Close behind is senior Anthony Stegeman with 19 wins, while freshman Derek Gillespie has 17 wins on the season.

Meanwhile, Chris Szabolcs lead the team with five falls this year, while sophomore Kurt Spranger owns a fastest fall of 46 seconds.

 

 

Last Year at the All-Academy Championships...
Air Force, which hosted the 2007 All-Academy Championships, finished fifth at last year's event. The Falcons had five placewinners in the tournament, led by Zach Lord (157) and Tony Dorward (165), who each finished third in their respective weight classes. Meanwhile, Zach Valdez (125), Jordan Tribble (197) and Anthony Stegeman (HWT) each finished fourth.

The Falcons travel to Northern Colorado next week, Feb. 10, for a conference dual meet.
