Air Force Hosts Colorado School of Mines, Utah Valley State

The Air Force wrestling team has its first home matches of the season this weekend, Jan. 25, when it will host Colorado School of Mines and WWC foe Utah Valley State. The Falcons will take on the Orediggers at 3:00 p.m., followed by the contest with Wolverines. Both matches will take place in Clune Arena. Air Force will then wrap up the weekend on Saturday at the Borah Duals, hosted by Western State.

Last Time Out...
The Falcons went 1-3 in four dual meets last weekend, falling to Purdue, Indianapolis and No. 17 Indianapolis, while defeating Gardner-Webb, 36-6. James Ciccone went 2-1 on the weekend, wrestling at both 184 and 197 pounds, while Stephen Crozier and Jake Kriegbaum each picked up two wins as well.

Scouting the Falcons...
Air Force enters this weekend's match with a 2-6 dual record. Juniors Stephen Crozier and Jordan Tribble each have a team-best five dual wins, while Crozier shares the team lead for total wins with freshman Derek Gillespie at 16.

Meanwhile, Gillespie, Chris Szabolcs and Joseph Stafford lead the team with four falls each on the season, while sophomore Kurt Spranger owns a fastest fall of 46 seconds.

Scouting the Orediggers...
Colorado School of Mines enters this weekend with a 3-5 overall record and has not been in action since Jan. 12, when it competed at the Hastings Open.

The Orediggers are led by 197-pounder Brennan Knerr, who holds 13-5 overall record and 6-2 mark in dual action.

 

 

Scouting the Wolverines...
Utah Valley State enters this weekend with a 4-5 dual mark and 1-0 record in the Western Wrestling Conference. The Wolverines were last in action at their own Utah Valley Open on Jan. 12.

At the Utah Valley Open, Benjamin Kjar was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler after winning the 125-pound title, while Brad Darrington won the 184-pound weight class.

About the Borah Duals...
The Borah Duals, hosted by Western State, feature eight schools, including Air Force. The Falcons will compete against the host Mountaineers, along with Grand Canyon, Mesa State and New Mexico Highlands. Also competing at the Borah Duals are Central Oklahoma, Findlay and Utah Valley State.
