Air Force Opens WWC Slate on the Road

    The Air Force wrestling team opens its Western Wrestling Conference dual slate this weekend when it visits North Dakota State and South Dakota State. The Falcons will face the Bison on Friday, Jan. 24, at 7:00 p.m. (CT), while taking on the Jackrabbits on Sunday, Jan. 26, at 1:00 p.m. (CT).

    The Falcons split a pair of non-conference duals in Corvallis, Ore., last weekend, falling to 20th-ranked Oregon State, 30-3, while defeating Southern Oregon, 23-14.

    Sophomore Josh Martinez (125) led the way for the Falcons with a 2-0 record, including the lone Air Force win versus Oregon State, while Carter McElhany (133), David Walker (141), Natrelle Demison (149), Josh Kreimier (157) and Daniel Baucke (165) earned victories against Southern Oregon.

    Air Force enters this weekend's duals with an 8-3 record on the season. Leading the way for the Falcons is sophomore Josh Martinez, currently ranked fifth in the nation at 125 pounds with a 24-2 overall record and 7-0 dual mark.

    North Dakota State, currently ranked 23rd in the latest USA Today/NWCA/AWN Coaches' Poll, enters Friday's dual with a 6-3 overall record. The Bison are coming off a pair of road wins over Boise State (26-15) and Oregon State (19-17). Leading the way for North Dakota State is senior Steven Monk, who is currently ranked third in the nation at 165 pounds, while sophomore Hayden Zillmer is rated 11th at 174 pounds.

    South Dakota State currently holds a 2-3 dual mark on the season and 1-0 mark in the Western Wrestling Conference after defeating conference foe Wyoming, 18-17, on Sunday. The top performer for the Jackrabbits is junior Cody Pack, who is currently ranked 18th in the nation at 157 pounds.

    The Falcons have a pair of wrestlers who are currently ranked by various wrestling publications. Sophomore Josh Martinez is currently ranked fifth at 125 pounds by InterMat, Amateur Wrestling News, W.I.N. Magazine, and DI College Wrestling. Meanwhile, senior Josh Kreimier is rated 19th in the nation by W.I.N. Magazine.
