Wrestling Team Defends Title at Colorado Collegiates
ALAMOSA, Colo. -- The United States Air Force Academy wrestling team easily defended its Colorado Collegiate title today in Plachy Hall scoring 102.5 team points, thanks to a meet-high five individual titles. The Falcons easily outdistanced Western State College, which finished second with 70 team points. WSC had two individual champions. Scott Frohardt (149 lbs.), T.J. Huxel (157 lbs.), Alex Pelbath (165 lbs.), Terry Parham (174 lbs.) and Kevin Hoy (Hwt) each captured individual titles at their respective weight classes to lead the Falcons to the team title. Four other Falcon wrestlers placed in the event. USAFA Coach Wayne Baughman was named the tournament's Coach of the Year for the second straight time and the third overall. The Falcons won their fourth title and have now been first or second in each of the last eight competitions. Southern Colorado finished third with 59 team points. They were led by two individual champions, including 133-pound Brian Luna, who was named the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler. Colorado School of Mines was fourth with 47 points, while the host Adams State College finished fifth with 43.5 points. Northern Colorado finished sixth with 18 points. 197-pound Jason McMillan was their lone individual champion.
The Falcons continue their season on Saturday, Jan. 20, at 1 p.m. when the
face Adams State in Colorado Springs.
