Two Falcons Place at Prestigious Midlands Tournament
Jan. 10, 2002 Two Air Force wrestlers participated in the prestigious Midlands Tournament at Northwestern University over the holiday break, helping Air Force to a 15th place finish out of 60 teams that were represented at the event. C1C Scott Frohardt took fourth place at the 149-pound weight class. Frohardt, who was unseeded in the event, lost his first match 11-3 against the No. 6 seed Keaton Anderson of Ohio State. He fought through the consolation bracket, winning his next four matches before facing Anderson again. This time, he defeated Anderson 3-1 in a close match. He then defeated No. 5 Jesse Jantzen of Harvard before losing his final match to No. 10 Karl Nadolsky, 7-4. C2C Kevin Hoy, seeded No. 6, grabbed sixth place at heavyweight. Hoy won his first two matches, defeating Matt Daddino (Hofstra) and No. 10 Matt Feast (Penn) by identical 3-0 scores. He then lost 6-5 to the No. 2 seed Tommy Rowlands of Ohio State. Hoy won his next two matches in the consolation bracket, before falling to the No. 1 seed Illinois' John Lockhart, 11-5. In the most recent Amateur Wrestling News rankins, Frohardt is ranked 13th in the nation, while Hoy is ranked 10th. Terry Parham, who missed the Midlands Tournament due to an injury, is ranked 16th. The Falcons next head to Portland, Ore., to compete in the Oregon Classic on Friday, Jan. 11. The team will participate in dual meets against Cal State Fullerton (9:45 a.m.), Simon Fraser (1:15 p.m.) and tournament host Portland State (3 p.m.).
