Air Force Wrestlers Conclude Competition at FHSU-Bob Smith Open

HAYS, Kan. - 2011 FHSU-Bob Smith Open Results Taking fourth place at 141 pounds, freshman Carter McElhany (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was the top competitor for the Air Force wrestling team at the FHSU-Bob Smith Open, hosted by Fort Hays State. McElhany, who entered the tournament as the sixth seed, posted a 3-2 record on Saturday to place fourth in his weight class. After an opening round bye, McElhany notched a fall in his first bout, followed by a decision in the third round. In the quarterfinals, McElhany scored a 10-0 major decision over Nebraska-Kearney's Brandon Rimpley, but was edged in the semifinals by FHSU's Dustin Dooley, 2-0. Earning a 7-3 decision over second-seeded Jace Campbell in the consolation semifinals, McElhany advanced to the third-place contest, but dropped a 4-0 decision to Central Oklahoma's Casy Rowell. Other top performers for the Falcons at the FHSU-Bob Smith Open included Dan Barringer (So., Monument, Colo.), Cody Davis (So., The Woodlands, Texas), Evan Gros (So., Lake Orion, Mich.), Greg Isley (So., Toledo, Ohio) and Chris Morales (So., Rio Rancho, N.M.). Gros, Isley and Morales each won four matches on Saturday, while Barringer and Davis each posted 3-2 records on the day. The Air Force wrestling team is back in action on Dec. 18, when it heads to the Reno Tournament of Champions.
