Air Force Wrestling Drops Home Opener to Stanford

USAFA, Colo. - Picking up just one individual victory, the Air Force wrestling team fell to Stanford, 30-4, Sunday afternoon in Clune Arena.
The Falcons struggled to get in the win column, dropping the first seven bouts of the dual. Air Force came up short in several close matches, including a 6-4 decision at 157 pounds, a 3-1 loss in the first tiebreaker at 197 pounds and a 3-2 loss in the heavyweight bout.
Sophomore Josh Martinez (Colorado Springs, Colo.), ranked 10th in the nation at 125 pounds, was able to put points on the board for the Falcons, earning a 9-1 major decision over Evan Silver, but Stanford closed out the match with two more individual wins, including a victory by third-ranked Ryan Mango at 133 pounds. Senior Greg Rinker (Northampton, Pa.) had a close battle with Mango, trailing 3-2 in the final minute of regulation, before Mango pulled away for a six-point win.
The Falcons are back in action on Friday, Nov. 15, when they travel to Sioux Falls, S.D., to take part in the Augustana Duals.
