Falcons Defeat Northern Colorado, 26-16

GREELEY, Colo. - In its final dual of the season, the Air Force wrestling team picked up a 26-16 victory over Western Wrestling Conference foe Northern Colorado Sunday afternoon at the Butler-Hancock Sports Pavilion. The Falcons won six of 10 bouts against the Bears to finish the regular season with an 11-6 overall dual mark and 2-3 ledger in the WWC.
The dual started at 141 pounds, where freshman David Walker (St. Marys, Iowa) secured a 3-2 decision to put the Falcons on the scoreboard. Classmate Natrelle Demison (Bakersfield, Calif.) followed up with a big win at 149 pounds, pinning his opponent in a time of 5:12.
Northern Colorado scored the next two wins, earning a major decision at 157 pounds and a decision at 165 pounds to cut the margin to 9-7 in the team scoring. However, sophomore Konner Witt (Oak Harbor, Ohio) extended the Falcons' lead with a first-period fall at 174 pounds, registering his team-leading 11th pin of the season.
Seniors Devin Hightower (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Greg Isley (Toledo, Ohio) both came up with decisions at 184 and 197 pounds, respectively, to give Air Force a 21-7 lead. However, the Bears battled back with wins in the next two bouts, scoring a decision in the heavyweight match and a fall at 125 pounds to get within five points.
The match closed at 133 pounds, where senior Greg Rinker (Northampton, Pa.) secured Air Force's victory with a 20-4 technical fall over Sonny Espinoza.
The Falcons return to action on Saturday, March 8, as they head to Orem, Utah, for the NCAA West Regional/WWC Championships, hosted this year by Utah Valley.
