Falcons Defeat Colorado Mines, 33-9

The Air Force wrestling team snapped a three-match losing streak by defeating visiting Colorado School of Mines 33-9 on Friday night at the Cadet East Gymnasium. The Falcons won eight out of 10 individual matches to win the dual meet handily.
Air Force's Brenden McLean opened the meet with a pin of Adam Seibel at the 197-pound weight class. Heavyweight Kurt Skarstedt lost a closely contested match to Derek Thompson, followed by an Air Force forfeit at 125 and the Falcons trailed 9-6.
The Falcons would regain the lead permanently at 133 pounds when Brandon Strong notched a 49-second pin over Garrett Eller. Matthew Benza notched a second-period pin at 141 pounds to give the Falcons a commanding 18-9 lead. Air Force would close out the match with five consecutive victories by decision.
The Falcons improve to 3-6 overall in dual competition. They will be back in action on Wednesday (Feb. 25) when they travel to Laramie to take on conference rival Wyoming.
