Falcons Win Two at Cal Baptist Duals

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Recording a combined 11 falls, the Air Force wrestling team rolled to a pair of team victories at the Cal Baptist Duals on Saturday. The Falcons opened the day with a 43-3 win over the host Lancers, while defeating Menlo, 43-9, to close out the afternoon.
Against the host Lancers, the Falcons (8-2) won nine of 10 bouts, including five wins by fall. Senior Andrew Zwirlein (Nashotah, Wis.) opened the dual with a pin in his 125-pound match, while Derek Gillespie (Sr., Chesapeake, Va.) earned a major decision at 133 pounds. Tenth-ranked Cole VonOhlen (So., Jackson, Minn.) and freshman Josh Kreimier (Fort Collins, Colo.) added to Air Force's team score with pins at 141 and 149 pounds, respectively, before Cal Baptist earned its only win of the match with a decision at 157 pounds.
The Falcons recorded pins in their next two matches, with Clayton Gable (So., Dallastown, Pa.) and Joseph Stafford (Sr., Loomis, Calif.) notching falls at 165 and 174 pounds, respectively. The last three weight classes were won by decision, with Kazden Ikehara (Sr., Mililani, Hawaii), Neil Delaney (Sr., Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Jared Erickson (So., Newton, Utah) earning wins.
In its match against Menlo, ranked 10th in the NAIA, Air Force again had several strong performances. While the Oaks took the early lead with a decision at 125 pounds, Gillespie tied the score with a 12-6 decision at 133 pounds. The Falcons earned their first team lead of the match with VonOhlen's second fall of the day and never looked back. Air Force won the next six bouts before Menlo closed out the dual with a pin in the heavyweight match.
Kreimier, Gable, Stafford and Delaney each notched a fall against Menlo, while sophomore Josh Mohr (Pewaukee, Wis.) added a major decision at 184 pounds. Also scoring for the Falcons in the match was junior Alec Williams (Fultondale, Ala.), who was awarded a forfeit victory at 157 pounds.
The Falcons open up their conference dual slate next weekend, Jan. 28, when they host North Dakota State at 7:00 p.m. in Clune Arena.
