Air Force Rolls to 39-3 Victory Over Cal Poly

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - With just one individual loss, the Air Force wrestling team cruised to a 39-3 dual victory over Cal Poly on Sunday. The Falcons, ranked 25th in the nation by InterMat, improve to 8-1 overall on the season, while the Mustangs fall to 2-6.
The action started at 125 pounds, where 10th-ranked freshman Josh Martinez (Colorado Springs, Colo.) posted a convincing 10-0 major decision over Britain Longmire. Sophomore Dylan Hyder (Yelm, Wash.) gave the Falcons a big win at 133 pounds, edging out 20th-ranked Devon Lotito in a 4-3 decision.
At 141 pounds, Carter McElhany (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) used a strong second period to earn a 4-0 decision against Brandan Rocha, increasing the Falcons' team lead to 10-0. In the 149-pound match, senior Logan Burch (Colorado Springs, Colo.) trailed 8-1 at the end of the first period, but was able to record a fall--the first of his career--58 seconds into the second period.
Josh Kreimier (Jr., Fort Collins, Colo.) scored a 12-1 major decision at 157 pounds, while a 15-0 technical fall from Jesse Stafford (So., Loomis, Calif.) at 165 pounds cemented the Falcons' team victory. Following an 18-4 major decision by junior Dan Barringer (Monument, Colo.), Air Force suffered its only loss of the evening, a 9-3 decision at 184 pounds. Senior Josh Mohr (Pewaukee, Wis.) was the last Falcon to wrestle on Sunday, winning a 10-1 major decision at 197 pounds, while heavyweight Bentley Alsup (So., Missoula, Mont.) was awarded a win by forfeit.
The Falcons return to action next weekend, Jan. 25, when they host North Dakota State in their Western Wrestling Conference opener.
