Cal Baptist defeats Air Force, 15-14, in overtime
Cal Baptist rallied for two late goals to force overtime and then defeated Air Force, 15-14 in overtime, in a Western Water Polo Association game, Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Academy’s Cadet Natatorium.

THIS WEEK: Air Force (7-13 overall and 3-4 WWPA) travels to San Diego, Calif., for the annual Western Water Polo Championships, Nov. 17-19. The Falcons are the No. 5 seed and will face fourth-seeded Concordia (10-10, 4-3 WWPA) in the first round, Friday, Nov. 17, at 5:45 pm PT.

ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT: Eight teams will battle for the WWPA title in San Diego. The tournament schedule features: No. 1 UC Davis vs. No. 8 Fresno Pacific, 11 a.m.;
No. 2 UC San Diego vs. No. 7 Santa Clara, 12:45 p.m.; No. 3 Cal Baptist vs. No. 6 Loyola Marymount, 4 p.m.; No. 4 Concordia vs. No. 5 Air Force, 5:45 p.m. All teams are guaranteed to play three games. An Air Force win would put the Falcons against the winner of the UC Davis-Fresno Pacific on Saturday at 4:00 pm PT. An Air Force loss would put the Falcons against the loser of the UC Davis-Fresno Pacific game on Saturday at 12:45 pm PT.

The winner of the tournament receives an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships.

THE FALCONS AND THE TOURNAMENT: Since winning the conference tournament in 2012, Air Force has won two games in the tournament each of the last four years. The Falcons placed third in 2015 and fifth in 2013, 2014 and 2016. The last time the Falcons won the opening game was in 2015 when the Falcons hosted the tournament. Last season, Air Force lost to Loyola Marymount in the first game, but battled back to beat Fresno Pacific and Santa Clara.

STAT LEADERS:  Senior Riley Thomas leads the team with 43 goals and 62 points. Senior Justin Harrison is second with 31 goals and 36 points.  Freshman James Burke is sixth in the league with 161 saves.

ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM:  Four Falcons earned Western Water Polo Association all-conference honors. Senior Riley Thomas earned first-team all-conference honors for the third straight season. Thomas led the Falcons with 43 goals and 62 points. He ranks second in the league in points per game (3.44) and third in goals per game (2.39). Senior Garrett Fisk was named to the second team while senior Justin Harrison was honorable mention. Fisk was third on the team with 24 goals and 33 points. Harrison was second on the team with 31 goals and 36 points.  Goalie James Burke was named to the all-freshman team. He ranked fifth in the conference in saves per game with 8.47. His 161 saves were sixth in the league. He made 10 or more saves in a game seven times this season, including a career high 12 against UC Davis, Sept. 23.
