Falcon Water Polo Team Posts Two Victories in California
Nov. 6, 2001 The Air Force water polo team posted two conference victories in California Sunday, defeating Claremont, 12-4, and Chapman, 7-2. AFA rebounded from losses to two Top 10 teams on Saturday. The Falcons jumped out to an 8-1 halftime lead against Claremont and never looked back. The Falcons extended the lead to 12-1 in the fourth quarter before allowing the final three goals of the contest. Scott Butler led the Falcons with five goals, while Charles Horn and Chris Smith added three and two, respectively. Smith led the team with three steals and goalie Brandon Schroyer made six saves en route to being named the team's MVP for the game. Air Force was very successful on its extra man opportunites, converting on all three. The Falcons then enjoyed a 7-2 victory over Chapman. Butler again led the blue and silver with team-highs of three goals and four steals as AFA again started strong, leading 4-1 at halftime. Smith added two goals, while Schroyer made four saves.
Air Force is idle until the Western Water Polo Association post-season tournament in Los Angeles, Nov. 16-18. The Falcons will enter the eight-team tournament as either the third or fourth seed, depending on results from other conference teams this weekend.
