No. 20 Air Force Hits the Road for Two WWPA Contests

    The 20th-ranked Air Force water polo team returns to action this weekend for a pair of road WWPA contests. The Falcons will visit No. 12 UC San Diego at 6:00 p.m. (PT) on Friday, Oct. 25, while facing 13th-ranked Loyola Marymount at noon on Sunday, Oct. 27.

    LAST TIME OUT...
    The Falcons went 1-2 in three road games last weekend, defeating Pomona-Pitzer, 15-12, while falling to No. 18 Cal Baptist (9-7) and No. 9 Pepperdine (12-7). Senior captain Josh Stedman led the Falcons' offense, registering seven goals and two assists on the weekend, including a game-high five goals in Air Force's victory over Pomona-Pitzer. Meanwhile, co-captain Max Reilly had a strong performance in his first action of the season, recording three goals and four assists on the weekend.

    SCOUTING THE FALCONS...
    The Air Force Falcons, tied for 20th in the latest national coaches poll, enter this weekend with a 5-8 overall record on the season, including a 1-0 record in WWPA seeding games.

    Senior Josh Stedman currently leads the Falcons with 44 points on the season, including a team-high 33 goals, while junior Dominic Vicino (15g, 14a) is second on the team with 29 points. Senior Brad Duncan has registered a team-leading 17 assists, while Stedman leads the team with 27 steals.

    SCOUTING THE TRITONS...
    The UC San Diego Tritons, ranked 12th in this week's coaches poll, have posted a 10-10 overall record on the season and a 2-0 mark in WWPA seeding contests.The Tritons are coming off a 13th-place finish at the UC Irvine Invitational Oct. 12-13, with wins over Pomona-Pitzer (15-4) and Loyola Marymount (9-7) and losses to Cal and UC Davis. Tommy Friedrich has tallied a team-best 35 goals on the season, while David Higginson (25g, 27a) and Chase Cockerill (19g, 32a) have added 52 and 51 points, respectively, for the Tritons.

    SCOUTING THE LIONS...
    The Loyola Marymount Lions, tied for 13th in this week's coaches poll, hold a 10-10 overall record on the year and an 0-1 mark in WWPA seeding contests. The Lions, coming off a 17-4 loss to top-ranked USC, are led by sophomore Milutin Mitrovic, the conference's leading scorer with 48 goals and 28 assists on the season.

    SERIES RECORDS...
    Air Force's game against UC San Diego on Friday will be its 75th all-time against its WWPA rival, with the Tritons leading the series, 59-15. UCSD won the last meeting between the two teams, a 15-7 decision at the NorCal Tournament last month.

    This weekend's meeting between Air Force and Loyola Marymount will be the 49th in the all-time series, with the Lions holding a 26-22 advantage over the Falcons. The two teams met earlier this season, with LMU earning a narrow 12-11 victory at the NorCal Tournament.

    KAP7 WWPA PLAYER OF THE WEEK...
    Senior co-captain Josh Stedman was named the K7 WWPA Player of the Week on Oct. 23 following his performance in three road games for the Falcons Oct. 18-20.

    Stedman was the Falcons' leading scorer in games against No. 18 Cal Baptist, Pomona-Pitzer and No. 9 Pepperdine, registering seven goals, two assists and two steals tfor the weekend. Stedman, who moved into 11th place on the Falcons' career scoring list, posted his best performance in Air Force's lone victory of the weekend, tallying five goals in the Falcons' 15-12 win over Pomona-Pitzer.

    RECORD BOOK WATCH...
    Senior Josh Stedman continues to move up in the Air Force record books, currently ranking 11th on the Falcons' career scoring list. He has now registered 233 career points (169g, 64a) and needs just seven more points to move into a tie with former teammate Cruz Smithson (`13) for 10th place on the list. In addition, Stedman is just seven goals away from matching Smithson for fifth place on the Falcons' career goals list.

    UP NEXT...
    The Falcons are off from competition next weekend before concluding the regular season with a pair of WWPA road contests against Santa Clara (Nov. 9) and UC Davis (Nov. 11).
