No. 15 Air Force Heads East For Four Games

    The 15th-ranked Air Force water polo team is back in action this weekend, Oct. 20-21, as they head to the East Coast for four games hosted by Navy. The Falcons will play George Washington and No. 11 Navy on Saturday, followed by contests against No. 20 Princeton and No. 16 Bucknell on Sunday.

    Head Coach Jeff Ehrlich...
    Head coach Jeff Ehrlich is in his ninth season at the helm of the Air Force water polo program. He came to the Academy in 1999 after a 25-year stint at Villa Park High School in Orange County, Calif.

    Since his arrival at Air Force, Ehrlich has led the team to a combined 122-125 overall record. Additionally, the Falcons have been nationally ranked in the top 20 at the end of seven of Ehrlich's eight seasons, with a best final ranking of 13th in 1999.

    Last Time Out...
    Two weeks ago, the Falcons went 1-2 at the Aggie Shootout, falling to second-ranked Cal and No. 9 host UC Davis, while notching a victory over Harvard. Justin Berry, Clark Condict and Alex Churnside all paced Air Force's offense with four goals each on the weekend.

    Scouting the Falcons...
    The Air Force Falcons, currently ranked 15th, enter this weekend with a 7-11 overall record and 3-4 mark in the WWPA.

    Senior captains Justin Berry and Clark Condict lead the Falcons with 41 and 36 goals, respectively, on the season. Meanwhile, sophomore goalkeeper David Ostrom has tallied 138 saves on the year.

    Scouting the Colonials...
    The George Washington Colonials currently hold a 7-10 overall record and will face Harvard and Navy before taking on the Falcons on Saturday.

     

     

    George Washington is coached by Scott Reed, in his ninth season at the helm of the program. David Zenk leads the Colonials with 36 goals on the season, while John-Claude Wright sits right behind with 34 goals.

    Scouting the Midshipmen...
    The Navy Midshipmen, ranked 11th in the latest coaches' poll, enter this weekend with a 15-5 overall record, and has games against Bucknell, George Washington and Princeton before facing Air Force on Saturday.

    Navy is coached by Mike Schofeld, in his 23rd season at the helm of the program. Michael Mulvey is the team's leading scorer with 51 goals and 14 assists on the season.

    Scouting the Tigers...
    The Princeton Tigers, currently ranked 20th in the nation, enter this weekend with an 11-9 overall record. The Tigers will play Johns Hopkins and Navy before taking on Air Force on Sunday.

    Princeton is coached by Luis Nicolao, now in his 10th season at the helm of the program. Zach Beckman leads the Tigers with 44 goals on the year.

    Scouting the Bison...
    The Bucknell Bison, currently ranked 16th in the nation, enter this weekend with a 12-9 overall record. The Bison are coming off a loss to Concordia and will play Navy, Harvard, Johns Hopkins and George Washington before facing the Falcons on Sunday.

    Bucknell is coached by John Zeigler, now in his eighth season at the helm of the program. Jason Rechel leads the Bison with 43 goals and 22 assists on the year.

    Series Records...
    This weekend, Air Force and George Washington will meet for the fifth time in the all-time series, with the Falcons undefeated against the Colonials. The two teams last met in 2003 with Air Force taking a 12-6 victory.

    Air Force and Navy have met 25 times before, with the Midshipmen holding an 18-7 advantage in the series. The two teams met earlier this season, with Navy capturing the 11-4 win.

    This weekend marks the seventh meeting between Air Force and Princeton, with the Tigers leading the series, 4-2. The last meeting between the two teams came in 2004, with Princeton taking the 11-6 victory.

    Air Force and Bucknell have met eight times before, with the Bison holding a 5-3 edge in the series. The two teams last met in 1998, with the Falcons winning a pair of contests.

    In the Rankings...
    Three Air Force water polo players are currently listed in the conference and national rankings. Senior Justin Berry ranks seventh in the WWPA and 23rd in the nation in total goals (41) on the season, while fellow captain Clark Condict ranks 12th and 35th, respectively, in the same category with 36 goals. Meanwhile, sophomore goalkeeper David Ostrom is seventh in the conference in total saves (138) on the season, while ranking 15th nationally.

    Moving Up in the Record Books...
    Senior Clark Condict continues to move up on the Falcons' list of all-time leading scorers. Entering the season in 23rd place with 160 points, Condict now sits in 12th place in the record books with 208 points (143 goals, 65 assists). Condict could break into the top 10 by season's end.

    The Falcons wrap up the regular season Nov. 3-4, when they head to the West Coast to take on WWPA foes Loyola Marymount, Chapman, La Verne and Claremont McKenna.
