Air Force Returns to Action at No. 10 LMU, Concordia Invitational

    The Air Force water polo team is back in action this weekend, Oct. 16-17, visiting 10th-ranked Loyola Marymount in a WWPA contest, while also taking part in the Concordia Invitational, being held at Golden West College. The Falcons face LMU at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, while playing Redlands in the first game of the tournament at 3:40 p.m. Air Force wraps up the weekend Sunday with an 11:40 a.m. contest versus Fresno Pacific.

    Last Time Out...
    Air Force posted a 2-1 record at last weekend's Convergence Tournament, defeating Cal Lutheran, 11-4, and Fordham, 12-6, while dropping a close 9-7 decision to No. 18 Pomona-Pitzer. The Falcons also visited third-ranked UC Irvine, falling 12-3 to the Anteaters.

    Senior captain Bobby Geiger led the Falcons' offense, scoring 10 goals and two assists on the weekend. Geiger registered a game-high five goals in Air Force's win over Fordham, while tallying all three of the Falcons' scores against UC Irvine. Meanwhile, junior goalkeeper Danny Harold registered 42 saves on the weekend, inlcuding a season-best 13 stops versus the Anteaters.

    Scouting the Falcons...
    The Air Force Falcons enter this weekend with a 5-10 overall record, including a 3-6 mark in the Western Water Polo Association.

    Senior Bobby Geiger leads the team with 40 points on the season, including a team-best 33 goals. Freshman Josh Stedman is second on the team with 24 points (17g, 7a), while senior Kurt Wallin has registered a team-high 16 assists.

    Scouting the Lions...
    The Loyola Marymount Lions, ranked 10th in the latest national poll, enter this weekend with an 8-7 overall record and 5-1 mark against WWPA competition. The Lions were last in action at the SoCal Tournament Oct. 2-3, where they compiled a 2-2 record, ending their 36-game conference win streak with a loss to UC San Diego.

     

     

    LMU is coached by John Loughran, in his 14th year at the helm of the program. Edgaras Asajavicius and Tibor Forai lead the Lions' offense this season with 28 goals each, while All-American goalkeeper Andy Stevens has registered 109 saves on the year.

    Scouting the Bulldogs...
    The Redlands Bulldogs, receiving votes in this week's coaches poll, enter this weekend with a 9-11 overall record and 3-4 mark in the WWPA. The Bulldogs put together a 4-0 record at the Convergence Tournament last weekend.

    Redlands is coached by Tom Whittemore, in his 23rd year at the helm of the program. Among the leaders for the Bulldogs is returning All-American Brendan Meaney.

    Scouting the Sunbirds...
    The Fresno Pacific Sunbirds enter this weekend's tournament with a 6-13 overall record and has won three of its last four contests.

    Fresno Pacific is coached by Bryan Suhovy, in his fourth season at the helm of the program.

    Series Records...
    This weekend, Air Force and Loyola Marymount meet for the 43rd time in series history, with the series tied at 21-21. LMU has won 14 straight contests between the team, including a 10-3 decision earlier this season.

    Air Force holds a 22-9 advantage in its series with Redlands, including two wins over the Bulldogs in 2009.

    This weekend's meeting between Air Force and Fresno Pacific will be the first-ever in the series.

    In the Record Books...
    Senior captain Bobby Geiger continues to move up in the Academy record books, and is currently tied with 2007 All-American Clark Condict for eighth place on the all-time scoring list with 242 career points (180g, 62a). Geiger needs just three more points to move into a tie for seventh place.

    Meanwhile, Geiger also ranks among the top-five goal scorers in school history, as his 180 career goals rate as the fourth-most at the Academy.

    Up Next...
    The Falcons travel to Santa Clara, Calif., next week, Oct. 23-24, to take part in The Rodeo. Air Force will face Bucknell and Brown on the first day of action, before taking on conference foes UC Davis and Santa Clara on day two.
