The 16th-ranked Air Force water polo team returns to action this weekend, Oct. 6-7, at the Aggie Shootout, hosted by UC Davis. The Falcons will play second-ranked Cal and Harvard on Saturday before taking on WWPA opponent UC Davis on Sunday.
Head Coach Jeff Ehrlich...
Head coach Jeff Ehrlich is in his ninth season at the helm of the Air Force water polo program. He came to the Academy in 1999 after a 25-year stint at Villa Park High School in Orange County, Calif.
Since his arrival at Air Force, Ehrlich has led the team to a combined 121-123 overall record. Additionally, the Falcons have been nationally ranked in the top 20 at the end of seven of Ehrlich's eight seasons, with a best final ranking of 13th in 1999.
Last Time Out...
Last weekend, the Falcons took second-place at their own East Meets West Tournament, going 2-2 with wins over No. 19 Cal Baptist and Cal Lutheran and a pair of losses to No. 15 Pacific. Senior Justin Berry, who notched 15 goals and two assists in four games, was named to the all-tournament team along with classmate Clark Condict, who notched eight goals and four assists on the weekend.
Scouting the Falcons...
The Air Force Falcons, currently ranked 16th, enter this weekend with a 6-9 overall record and 3-3 mark in the WWPA.
Senior captains Justin Berry and Clark Condict pace the Falcons with 37 and 32 goals, respectively, on the season. Meanwhile, sophomore goalkeeper David Ostrom has tallied 114 saves on the year.
Scouting the Bears...
The Cal Bears, ranked second in the nation, are 10-1 overall on the season. The Bears are coming off a 17-7 victory over No. 15 Pacific.
Cal is coached by Kirk Everist, in his sixth season at the helm of the program. All-American Michael Sharf leads the Bears with 43 goals on the season.
Scouting the Crimson...
The Harvard Crimson enter this weekend with a 6-4 overall record, finishing eighth at the ECAC Championships last weekend.
Harvard is coached by Erik Farrar, in his fourth season at the helm of the program. Meanwhile, sophomore Spencer Livingston is the team's leading scorer, notching 24 goals on the season.
Scouting the Aggies...
The UC Davis Aggies, currently ranked ninth in the nation, hold an 11-4 overall record and perfect 10-0 mark in the WWPA. The Aggies will visit No. 15 Pacific on Friday before hosting the Aggie Shootout this weekend.
UC Davis is coached by Steve Doten, now in his seventh season at the helm of the program. Senior Nick Arrigo leads the Aggies with 24 goals on the season, while Adam Bennett has added 21 goals.
Series Records...
This weekend, Air Force and Cal will meet for the 23rd time in the all-time series, with the Falcons winless against the Bears. The two teams met earlier this season at the NorCal Open, with the Bears capturing a 14-4 victory.
Air Force and Harvard have met three times before, with the Falcons remaining undefeated against the Crimson. The last meeting between the two teams came in 1995, with an 11-4 Air Force win.
This weekend marks the 54th meeting between Air Force and UC Davis, with the Falcons holding a 34-19 advantage in the series. The teams played each other twice last season, with the Aggies taking the first game, 7-5, before the Falcons took a 6-5 win.
In the Rankings...
Three Air Force water polo players are currently listed in the conference and national rankings. Senior Justin Berry ranks second in the WWPA and 11th in the nation in total goals (37) on the season, while fellow captain Clark Condict ranks third and 16th, respectively, in the same category with 32 goals. Meanwhile, sophomore goalkeeper David Ostrom is fourth in the conference in total saves (114) on the season, while ranking ninth nationally.
Moving Up in the Record Books...
Senior Clark Condict continues to move up on the Falcons' list of all-time leading scorers. Entering the season in 23rd place with 160 points, Condict now sits in 12th place in the record books with 203 points (139 goals, 64 assists). Condict could break into the top 10 by season's end.
Up Next...
The Falcons are off next weekend before heading out to Annapolis, Md., Oct. 20-21, to take on George Washington, Princeton, Bucknell and host Navy.
