No. 20 Air Force Set to Host Home Tournament

    The 20th-ranked Air Force water polo team hosts its lone home tournament of the year this weekend, Sept. 27-29, at the Cadet Natatorium. Six games will be played over the three-day weekend, with Cal Baptist, Mercyhurst and Pomona-Pitzer joining the Falcons.

    TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE...
    Air Force will open this weekend's tournament on Friday evening with a conference match-up versus WWPA foe Cal Baptist at 6:00, while Mercyhurst and Pomona-Pitzer will face off in the second game of the evening.

    On Saturday, the action starts at 10:00 a.m. with a game between Cal Baptist and Pomona-Pitzer, followed by Air Force versus Pomona-Pitzer (2:30 p.m.), and Cal Baptist versus Mercyhurst (4:00 p.m.). The tournament concludes with one game on Sunday, as Air Force faces Mercyhurst at 11:00 a.m.,

    All three of Air Force's contests this weekend's are scheduled to be video streamed live, with the link available at GoAirForceFalcons.com.

    LAST TIME OUT...
    Last weekend, Air Force placed 15th at the annual NorCal Invitational, hosted this year by Cal. The Falcons posted a 1-3 record on the weekend, falling to fourth-ranked host Cal (17-8), eighth-ranked Loyola Marymount (12-11) and 11th-ranked UC San Diego (15-7), while defeating Diablo Valley College, 18-12.

    Senior co-captain Josh Stedman led the Falcons' offense, tallying 14 goals and two assists on the weekend, including eight goals in Air Force's victory. Meanwhile, freshman Robby Stiefel (4g, 7a) and junior Dominic Vicino (5g, 5a), added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

    SCOUTING THE FALCONS...
    The Air Force Falcons, tied for 20th in the latest national coaches poll, enter this weekend with a 1-7 overall record on the season.

    Senior Josh Stedman currently leads the Falcons with 26 points on the season, including a team-high 18 goals, followed by sophomore Andy Santala with 18 points (8g, 10a).

    SCOUTING THE LANCERS...
    The Cal Baptist Lancers enter this weekend with a 3-5 overall record and 0-0 mark in the WWPA. Cal Baptist posted a 2-2 record at its own Lancer Invitational last weekend, defeating Cal Lutheran (14-8) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (9-7), while falling to Whittier (12-9) and Pomona-Pitzer (11-9).

    SCOUTING THE SAGEHENS...
    The Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens, receiving votes in this week's coaches poll, enter this weekend with a 2-6 overall record, following a 2-0 performance at the Lancer Invitational last weekend. The Sagehens earned an 11-9 victory over Cal Baptist, while defeating Occidental, 17-6. Freshman James Baker is the leading scorer for the Sagehens this season, with 16 goals on the year, including a combined seven goals in the last two games.

    SCOUTING THE LAKERS...
    The Mercyhurst Lakers, receiving votes in this week's coaches poll, enter this weekend with a 6-1 overall record. The Lakers won four CWPA games last weekend, defeating Washington and Jefferson (15-4), Gannon (11-9), Salem International (16-11) and Penn State-Behrend (17-5).

    SERIES RECORDS...
    This weekend's meeting between Air Force and Cal Baptist will be the 24th in the all-time series, with the Falcons holding a 13-10 edge over the Lacers. The two teams met twice in last year's Air Force Tournament, with the Falcons earning 11-8 and 19-10 victories.

    Air Force's game against Pomona-Pitzer will be its 22nd against its former WWPA rival, with the Falcons holding a 19-2 advantage in the series. Air Force came away with the win in the last meeting between the two teams, a 13-9 victory at Pomona-Pitzer last season.

    Meanwhile, Air Force and Mercyhurst have met just once before, with the Falcons taking a 10-5 win over the Lakers in 2008.

    RECORD BOOK WATCH...
    With his 16 points in last weekend's competition, senior Josh Stedman moved into 15th place on Air Force's career scoring list. He has now registered 215 career points (154g, 61a) and needs just one more point to move into a tie with Scott Butler (`04) for 14th place on the list.

    UP NEXT...
    The Falcons are off next weekend, but return to action Oct. 12-13 at the UC Irvine Invitational. Opponents will determined following the release of next week's coaches' poll.
