Falcons Voted Fourth in WWPA Preseason Coaches Poll

    The Air Force water polo team achieved its highest preseason WWPA ranking in the past seven years, as it was selected to finish fourth in the Western Water Polo Association, as chosen by the conference's head coaches in the 2012 preseason poll.

    Earning the top spot in this year's poll was Loyola Marymount, which narrowly edged out 2011 champion UC San Diego, earning 116 overall points and seven first-place votes to the Tritons' 114 points and five first-place votes.

    UC Davis, which played in last year's title game, earned 100 points to place third, followed by the Falcons with 91 points and Santa Clara with 84 points.

    Pomona-Pitzer was selected for a sixth-place finish with 69 points, followed by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (58 pts.) and Redlands (56 pts.) in seventh and eighth place, respectively. Rounding out the poll were Whittier (36 pts.), Chapman (34 pts.), La Verne (20 pts.) and Occidental (14 pts.).

    The Falcons will host the Blue/Silver Scrimmage this Saturday, Sept. 1 at 10:00 a.m. in the Cadet Natatorium, before getting the season off to an official start Sept. 8-9 at the Inland Empire Classic, hosted by Redlands.
