USAFA, Colo. - Air Force water polo coach Jeff Ehrlich has agreed to accept another position within the athletic department and will not return as head water polo coach next season, according to an announcement today by Director of Athletics Dr. Hans Mueh. Ehrlich just completed his 11th season at the Academy and had a career record of 165-157. During the 2009 campaign, Ehrlich was named the Western Water Polo Association Coach of the Year while leading the Falcons to an 18-14 overall record and a final ranking of 17th in the nation.

Jeff Heidmous, who currently serves as associate athletic director/deputy head of physical education, has been named the head coach. Heidmous served as Falcons head water polo coach from 1981-84 and 1986-1998. He compiled a career record of 232-202-1 in 17 years as the head coach and led Air Force to two league championships. A 1977 Academy graduate, Heidmous is currently the chairman of the NCAA Men's Water Polo Committee and was inducted into the USA Water Polo Hall of Fame in 2002.

"The leadership at Air Force has decided to go in a different direction with the coaching staff," said Ehrlich. "I support their decision and will be very happy taking a new position within the athletic department. I am very thankful for the 11 years I have had to work with our future officers and leaders. I want to wish the team the best and am confident they will have an outstanding season."
