LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Air Force senior water polo players Andrew Hamilton and Max Reilly have both been named to the 2013 Western Water Polo Association All-Academic team, as announced by the league today. Reilly earns the honor for the third-straight season, while Hamilton garners his second all-academic team nod.
A total of 38 student-athletes were named to the WWPA All-Academic team for the 2013 season. The team consists of members who carried a 3.0 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale), played in at least 50 percent of the team's contests during the season, and were classified as a full-time student who has completed a minimum of one semester or two quarters at his institution.
Hamilton, a native of Mechanicsburg, Pa., leads the team with a 3.08 GPA as a biology major. Also named a second-team All-WWPA selection in the fall, Hamilton played in and started 15 games for the Falcons this year. He finished second on the team in goals scored with 21, while also adding seven steals and five assists.
Meanwhile, Reilly, a Davis, Calif., native, is also a biology major, carrying a 3.03 GPA. One of the Falcons' team captains, Reilly finished the year with 11 goals and seven assists, despite missing the first half of the season due to injury. Reilly was the Falcons' lone honoree on the All-WWPA Tournament squad, earning second-team distinction.
Since 1989, Air Force has had 47 different players earn a total of 89 WWPA All-Academic honors, including three who were four-time honorees.
