USAFA, Colo. - Air Force water polo players Cruz Smithson and Josh Stedman have been named All-Americans for the 2012 season, as announced by the ACWPC (Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches) today. Smithson and Stedman, who become the first Air Force teammates to earn All-America recognition in the same season since 1995, were both named honorable mention selections.

The honor caps off a stellar season for Smithson and Stedman, who helped lead the Falcons to their first WWPA title since 1994 and a fourth-place finish at the National Collegiate Men's Water Polo Tournament. Air Force closed out the season ranked 11th in the nation with a 19-12 overall record.

Smithson, a senior utility from Capistrano Beach, Calif., registered 43 goals and 20 assists in 2012, ranking second on the team in goals and third in total points. A second-team all-conference selection, Smithson was also a first-team All-WWPA Championship honoree and second-team all-tournament honoree at the national championship. He closed out his career as the 10th-leading scorer in Academy history with 240 career points and fifth in career goals with 176.

Meanwhile, Stedman, a junior attack from Brea, Calif., was the team's leading scorer in 2012, registering a team-best 64 goals and 87 points, while also recording a team-high 43 steals on the season. A two-time first-team All-WWPA honoree, Stedman was also named a second-team all-tournament selection at the national championship this season. He enters his final year as a Falcon with 189 career points, ranking 19th in school history.
