Air Force Takes Fifth Place at WWPA Championship

DAVIS, Calif. - Paced by six goals from senior captain Josh Stedman (Brea, Calif.), the Air Force water polo team captured a 15-9 victory over Cal Baptist in the fifth-place game of the 2013 Western Water Polo Association Championship, hosted by UC Davis.
Stedman, who also registered an assist and a team-high three steals against CBU, ends his career as the eighth-leading point scorer in school history with 252 career points (184g, 68a) and the fifth-leading goal scorer.
The Falcons, who close out the season with a 6-14 overall mark. never trailed against the Lancers in the contest, taking a 3-0 lead midway through the first quarter with a pair of scores from junior Dominic Vicino (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) and a penalty goal from Stedman. While Cal Baptist came back to tie the game at 3-3 at the end of the first period, Air Force began to pull away in the second quarter, holding a 7-5 advantage at the half.
With a six-goal third quarter, including three tallies from Stedman, the Falcons pushed their advantage to 13-8 going into the final stanza and outscored the Lancers once more in the fourth period.
In addition to Stedman's six goals, sophomore Kevin Womack (Redlands, Calif.) pitched in three scores, all in the second half, while Vicino and Petar Jackovich (Jr., New Lenox, Ill.) tallied two goals each. Cameron Custance was the leading scorer for Cal Baptist, finishing with three goals.
Meanwhile, senior captain Max Reilly (Davis, Calif.), who registered a goal and an assist in Sunday's contest, was named to the WWPA All-Tournament second team at the conclusion of the championship.
