    SANTA CLARA, Calif. -

On day two of the 2010 Western Water Polo Association Championship, the seventh-seeded Air Force water polo team knocked off sixth-seed Pomona-Pitzer with a 10-8 victory Saturday at Sullivan Aquatic Center.

Pomona-Pitzer, which defeated Air Force twice this season, scored the first two goals of the day to take the early lead. However, sophomore Cruz Smithson (Capistrano Beach, Calif.) scored in the final minute of the opening period to put the Falcons on the board. Bobby Geiger (Sr., Buellton, Calif.) tied the game at 2-2 early in the second quarter while the two teams traded goals during the rest of the period to bring the score to 3-3 at the half.

Air Force (12-18) made a run to start the third quarter, tallying three scores within the first three minutes to take a 6-3 advantage. The Falcons took an 8-5 advantage into the final stanza, and while the Sagehens came within a goal twice in the fourth quarter, Air Force was able to hold on for the win.

Smithson was the Falcons' leading scorer with three goals, while Geiger, Josh Stedman (Fr., Brea, Calif.), Taque Patino (Jr., Rockford, Mich.) added two scores each. Meanwhile, sophomore goalkeeper Mike Fish (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) was credited with 12 stops in the game.

The Falcons conclude the 2010 season tomorrow when they face Redlands in the fifth-place contest of the WWPA Championship, slated to begin at 10:40 a.m. (PT).
