Air Force Drops WWPA Contest to No. 16 Santa Clara

    SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Competing in its final weekend of the regular season, the Air Force water polo team fell to 16th-ranked Santa Clara, 13-7, Saturday afternoon in WWPA action. With the loss, the Falcons fall to 5-12 overall on the season and 1-3 in the Western Water Polo Association.

    The Falcons put together a strong offensive effort in the opening period, holding a 5-4 advantage after one quarter. However, Santa Clara outscored Air Force 5-0 in the second period to take a 9-5 advantage. The Falcons were unable to cut into their deficit after the intermission, scoring just two goals in the second half.

    Air Force received balanced scoring, with six different players finding the back of the net. Junior Dominic Vicino (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) tallied a game-high two goals, while senior Andrew Hamilton (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) registered a goal and an assist. In addition, freshman goalkeeper Max Benson (Ann Arbor, Mich.) tallied 10 saves in his first collegiate start.

    The Falcons close out the regular season on Monday, Nov. 11, when they visit 12th-ranked UC Davis in a WWPA contest.
