No. 19 Air Force Posts 12-4 Victory Over La Verne

LA VERNE, Calif. -
Recording a second-half shutout, the 19th-ranked Air Force water polo team defeated La Verne, 12-4, Sunday afternoon in WWPA action. With the victory, the Falcons improve to 10-16 overall on the season and 5-10 in the Western Water Polo Association.
With a 5-4 lead at the break, Air Force’s offense turned it up in the second half, scoring four goals in the third period, while adding three more scores in the final stanza. Meanwhile, the Falcons were able to hold the Leopards scoreless in the final two periods to earn the 12-4 victory.
The Falcons received balanced scoring, with eight different players recording goals against La Verne. Sophomore Cruz Smithson (Capistrano Beach, Calif.) led the way with three goals, while Dillon Fisher (So., Orange, Calif.) and Kurt Wallin (Sr., Temecula, Calif.) added two goals each.
Also scoring in the contest for Air Force were Bobby Geiger (Sr., Buellton, Calif.), Kurt Lemmen (Sr., Orlando, Fla.), Anson Harvey (Jr., Thousand Oaks, Calif.), Max Reilly (Fr., Davis, Calif.) and Garrett Womack (So., Redlands, Calif.). Meanwhile, sophomore goalkeeper Mike Fish (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) registered eight stops and a steal against the Leopards.
The Falcons close out the regular season tomorrow as they visit third-ranked UCLA in a 12:00 p.m. (PT) contest.
