No. 16 Air Force Closes Regular Season With Victory
    Falcons Defeat La Verne; Game Called Against Claremont

    La Verne, Calif. - Playing its final games of the regular season, the 16th-ranked Air Force water polo team captured a 12-6 victory over conference foe La Verne. The Falcons improve to 12-13 on the season and 5-5 in the WWPA.

    After taking a two-goal lead over La Verne in the opening period, Air Force outscored the Leopards 3-0 in the second quarter to take a 7-2 lead at the half. Behind three goals each from Justin Berry (Sr., Windermere, Fla.) and Tyler Hewko (Jr., Laguna Hills, Calif.) went on to secure the 12-6 victory over La Verne.

    Also scoring for the Falcons was Clark Condict (Sr., Irvine, Calif.) with two goals, while Alex Churnside (So., Orange, Calif.), Damon Jones (Sr., Kaneohe, Hawaii), Chris Pace (Sr., Santa Ynez, Calif.) and Bobby Geiger (Fr., Buellton, Calif.) tallied one goal each. Hewko and Jones also led Air Force with three assists each in the game.

    Following the game against La Verne, the Falcons were slated to play another conference match-up against Claremont. The two teams played one half of action, with Air Force taking a 5-3 lead at the break, before a medical emergency halted play. Condict scored two of the Falcons' first-half goals, with Hewko, Berry and Churnside recording the other three scores.

    Now the Falcons will get ready to host the WWPA Championships, to be held Nov. 16-18 at the Cadet Natatorium.
