The Air Force water polo team, ranked 13th in the nation, fell to 12th-ranked UC Davis, 12-11, in a Western Water Polo Association game, Thursday, Oct. 23, in Davis, Calif. Air Force fell to 9-12 overall and 1-2 in the WWPA. UC Davis improved to 10-12 overall and 1-1 in the league.
UC Davis scored the first three goals of the game, but Air Force came back to tie the game at 3-3 after one quarter. With the score tied at 4-4 early in the second, UC Davis scored three straight to take a 7-4 lead. Air Force cut the margin to one goal four times, but was never again able to tie the game. UC Davis led 8-6 at the half and 11-9 after three quarters. With Air Force trailing 12-10 late in the game, junior Ben Rogers scored to cut the Aggie lead to 12-11 with 3:06 left in the fourth. The Falcons had two possessions down the stretch, but were unable to tie the game.
Jantz Johnson, Garrett Fisk, Riley Thomas and Ben Rogers all scored two goals for the Falcons. Riley Quinlan, Robby Stiefel and Dominic Vicino all had one. Rogers also had three assists while Stiefel had four steals. Max Benson made seven saves for the Falcons.
Air Force will compete in the Rodeo Tournament, Oct. 25-26, in Santa Clara, Calif. The Falcons will face Santa Clara, Brown, Bucknell and Fresno Pacific in the two-day tournament.
