U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. --- Riley Thomas scored three goals and Justin Harrison scored two, but it was not enough as the Air Force water polo team fell to Concordia, 10-7, Sunday, Oct. 22, in Irvine, Calif.
The Falcons (5-12 overall and 1-3 in the WWPA) struck first as Harrison scored at 7:41. The Eagles tied the game 20 seconds later and scored three straight for a 3-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Goals by Thomas and Edward Smet tied the game at 3-3 early in the second. Thomas, Garrett Fisk and Harrison scored for the Falcons in the second quarter, but a late goal by Concordia gave the Eagles a 7-6 lead at the half. Neither team scored in the third quarter.
Thomas’ third of the game early in the fourth tied the score at 7-7. The game remaining tied until the closing minutes. The Eagles scored on a five-meter shot with 1:44 left for an 8-7 lead. Concordia then sealed the win with two goals in the final minute.
Air Force outshot Concordia, 32-30, in the game. Each team scored a power-play goal and a five-meter goal in the game.
Air Force hosts Cal Baptist in the final home game of the season, Saturday, Oct. 28, at noon at the Cadet Natatorium. The game will be the final home appearance for four seniors: Jack Empey, Garrett Fisk, Justin Harrison and Riley Thomas.
