No. 19 Air Force Earns 15-12 Win Over Pomona-Pitzer
Oct. 19, 2013
CLAREMONT, Calif. - Led by five goals from senior captain Josh Stedman (Brea, Calif.) the 19th-ranked Air Force water polo team picked up a 15-12 road victory over Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday.
Air Force took the early lead with a score from senior Brad Duncan (Fresno, Calif.) a minute into the contest, and never trailed, going into the second period with a 5-3 advantage. The Falcons went on to score six goals in the second quarter, including three from Stedman, to earn an 11-6 lead at the half.
The Sagehens began to make a run in the third quarter, tallying the first three goals of the period to cut their deficit to 11-9. However, the Falcons responded with three straight scores of their own to push the lead back to five before Pomona-Pitzer closed out the quarter with two more tallies.
In the final stanza, each team scored just one goal, but it was enough for Air Force (5-8) to come away with the win.
In addition to Stedman's five goals, classmate Andrew Hamilton (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) tallied three scores, while Kevin Womack (Redlands, Calif.). Meanwhile, Max Reilly (Sr., Davis, Calif.) and Dominic Vicino (Jr., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) each recorded a goal and three assists.
The Falcons close out their three-game road trip tomorrow, Oct. 20, when they visit ninth-ranked Pepperdine in a 1:00 p.m. (PT) contest.
