Competing for the first time in nearly three weeks, the 19th-ranked Air Force water polo team came up short in a 9-7 road loss to 18th-ranked WWPA rival Cal Baptist on Friday.
It was a close game for the Falcons, who defeated the Lancers, 14-10, in a contest at the Academy last month. CBU tallied the first goal of the contest, but Air Force ended the opening period with a 3-2 advantage. The score was tied, 3-3, at the half, as the Lancers tallied the only goal of the second quarter.
The Falcons took the advantage in the third period, earning a 6-5 lead after 24 minutes of play, and still held a 7-6 advantage with just over six minutes to play in regulation. However, the Lancers closed out the contest with three unanswered scores to come away with the victory.
Senior co-captain Max Reilly (Davis, Calif.), playing for the first time this season, led the Falcons' offense with two goals, while captain Josh Stedman (Sr., Brea, Calif.) and Petar Jackovich (Jr., New Lenox, Ill.) each added a goal and an assist.
The Falcons (4-8) return to action tomorrow, Oct. 19, when they visit Pomona-Pitzer in a non-conference contest slated to begin at 3:00 p.m. (PT).
