14th-Ranked Falcons Wrap Up Weekend at SoCal Tournament

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The 14th-ranked Air Force water polo team dropped a pair of contests Sunday to finish in 12th place at the annual SoCal Tournament. The Falcons (6-6, 5-2 WWPA) fell to No. 9 Long Beach State, 13-7, in their first game of the day before dropping a 9-3 decision to 11th-ranked UC San Diego.
Against Long Beach State, Air Force trailed by just one goal after the first period of action, but the 49ers began to pull away in the second quarter, leading 6-3 at the half and 11-5 after three periods. The Falcons struggled to take advantage of their man-up opportunities, scoring on just 2-of-8 chances, while Long Beach State scored on five of their six 6-on-5 chances.
Senior Cruz Smithson (Capistrano Beach, Calif.) and freshman Ben Rogers (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) led Air Force with two goals each against Long Beach State, while goalkeeper Mike Fish (Sr., Manhattan Beach, Calif.) was credited with 14 saves.
Air Force fell into an early deficit against UC San Diego, trailing 6-1 after two periods, and was never able to recover. Seniors Brad Rajchel (Orlando, Fla.), Alex Arcidiacono (La Jolla, Calif.) and Dillon Fisher (Orange, Calif.) were the lone Falcons to score against the Tritons, while Fish registered 13 saves.
The Falcons are back in action next weekend, Oct. 7, when they open their home slate with a contest versus WWPA foe Santa Clara.
