No. 14 Air Force Splits Two Games at SoCal Tournament

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The 14th-ranked Air Force water polo team went 1-1 on the opening day of competition at the annual SoCal Tournament, falling to fourth-ranked Cal, 21-4, before knocking off 12th-ranked UC Davis, 12-11.
The Falcons (6-4, 5-1 WWPA) never challenged in their first game of the day, outscored 10-1 in the first half and 11-3 after the break. Freshman Kevin Womack (Redlands, Calif.) led Air Force with two scores against Cal, while Petar Jackovich (So., New Lenox, Ill.) and Garrett Womack (Sr., Redlands, Calif.) added the other two goals for the Falcons.
Meanwhile, Air Force rebounded in its second game, a match-up against conference foe UC Davis. After playing to a 3-3 tie in the opening period, the Falcons took a 6-4 advantage at the half. The Aggies came back in the third quarter, tying the score at 9-9, while Air Force edged out UC Davis in the final stanza for the 12-11 victory.
Junior Josh Stedman (Brea, Calif.) tallied four goals to pace the Falcons against the Aggies, while Cruz Smithson (Sr., Capistrano Beach, Calif.) registered three goals and Max Reilly (Jr., Davis, Calif.) added two scores.
The Falcons wrap up the weekend with two more games tomorrow, taking on No. 9 Long Beach State at 10:40 a.m. (PT). Air Force will then face either 10th-ranked Loyola Marymount or 11th-ranked UC San Diego in its final game of the weekend.
