Cal Baptist took the early lead, scoring a 5-meter penalty goal in the first minute of the contest. Less than two minutes later, the Lancers increased their margin to 2-0 before Air Force got on the board with a 6-on-5 goal from Jantz Johnson (Jr., Murrieta, Calif.) with just over a minute remaining in the opening period.
A man-up goal by Josh Stedman (Sr., Brea, Calif.) 35 seconds into the second quarter tied the game at 2-2, while Andy Santala (So., Aliso Viejo, Calif.) gave Air Force its first lead of the game a minute later. While Cal Baptist came back to take the lead with 51 seconds remaining in the period, senior Brad Duncan (Fresno, Calif.) tallied his first goal of the game with 29 seconds on the clock to bring the score to 5-5 at the intermission.
