STOCKTON, Calif. -  The 19th-ranked Air Force water polo team split a pair of games at the Kap 7 NorCal Tournament, Saturday, Sept. 20, in Stockton, Calif. Air Force beat No. 12 Loyola-Marymount, 11-9, and lost to No. 3 USC, 20-7, on the first day of the two-day tournament.

In the Falcons’ opening game of the tournament, the third-ranked USC Trojans built a 6-0 lead in the first quarter en route to a 20-7 victory over Air Force. The Falcons matched the Trojans with four goals each in the second quarter, but trailed 10-4 at the half. USC scored five goals in each the third and fourth quarters for a 20-7 win. Dominic Vicino led the Falcons with two goals. Petar Jackovich, Jantz Johnson, Brett Fogelberg, Eric Curia and Justin Harrison all scored for Air Force.

Air Force, 5-6 overall this season, defeated No. 12 Loyola-Marymount, 11-9, in the second game of the day. Air Force opened the scoring at 7:15 of the first period when Robby Stiefel scored his first of two goals in the game. LMU came back to take a 3-2 at the end of the first quarter and 4-3 at the half. The Falcons scored six goals by six different players in the third quarter to take a 9-4 lead. Air Force then had to hold off an LMU rally in the fourth quarter. Oliver Carter and Jantz Johnson scored for the Falcons in the fourth to take an 11-6 lead. The Lions then scored three goals in a span of 1:48 to cut the Falcon lead to 11-9, but never got closer. Stiefel, Vicino, Johnson and Carter all had two goals for the Falcons. Benson 17 saves for Air Force.

Air Force will meet UC Davis on Sunday, Sept. 21, at noon PT in the consolation semifinals in Stockton, Calif. The winner will play for ninth place at 5:20 p.m. PT. The loser will play for 11th place at 4:00 pm PT.
