Sept. 20, 2010
DAVIS, Calif. -
Playing its fifth game in three days, the 19th-ranked Air Force water polo team dropped a 7-4 decision to No. 15 UC Davis Monday afternoon at Schaal Aquatics Center. With the loss, the Falcons fall to 3-8 on the season and 3-5 in the Western Water Polo Association.
The game remained evenly matched for the first three periods. After playing to a 1-1 score at the end of the opening quarter, both teams registered two goals in the second period, including a goal for each team in the final minute of the half.
UC Davis was first to strike after the intermission, getting on the board 33 seconds into the third period, but a 6-on-5 goal by the Falcons’ Cruz Smithson (So., Capistrano Beach, Calif.) less than 30 seconds later tied the game once more. However, the Aggies scored a penalty goal with 1:16 remaining in the quarter to take a 5-4 lead in the contest, and shut out the Falcons in the final stanza to secure the 7-4 victory.
The Falcons have the next two weekends off before returning to action Oct. 8-9 at the Convergence Tournament in Claremont, Calif.
