Falcons Knocked Out of Singles at ITA Mountain Region Championships

After nearly two full days of rain, the 2004 Wilson/ITA Mountain Region Men's Tennis Championships finally saw a complete day of action Friday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on the campus of UNLV. Air Force's contigent of players was eliminated from singles action after junior Shannon Buck had to withdraw prior to his quarterfinal match against Marko Bundalo of Colorado due to tightness in his hamstring.
The players played deep into the night on Thursday, finishing the second round of singles early Friday morning, then played two more rounds on Friday. Buck, seeded No. 2 at the tournament, earned a bye in the first round, then defeated Viktor Zetterholm of Denver, 6-4, 6-0, and James Ludlow of BYU, 6-2, 6-4, to advance to the quarters.
Senior Tyler McClung won his second round match over Dan Mascall of Utah, 6-4, 6-4, before losing in the round of 16 to the No. 7 seed Matias Silve of Boise State, 6-4, 6-1. Junior Trevor Johnson and sophomore Justin Lau lost in the second round to Danilo Zivanovic of New Mexico State and Marcos Delgado of Colorado, respectively.
The doubles competition will begin late Friday night and continue into Saturday.
