Falcons Open Mountain Region Tournament on Wednesday

    The Air Force men's tennis team will send eight players to the ITA Mountain Region Championships in Las Vegas, Nev., beginning Wednesday, Oct. 20 at the Darling Tennis Center. The Falcons will join players from 15 other schools in the region for the five-day tournament.

    Senior Taylor Soster, sophomores Lance Wilhelm and Stephen Katrein and freshmen Lucas Marin-Salcedo, Andy Jackson, Alex Grubbs, Alex Lineberry and Steven Young will participate in the singles competition. Marin-Salcedo enters the tournament with a team-high five wins this fall and posted two victories at the All-American Prequalifying tournament, while Young, who advanced to the final of the "B" flight at the UNM Balloon Fiesta Classic last weekend, and Katrein each have a 4-1 record.

    Soster and Grubbs will pair up as one doubles team after capturing the "B" flight title last weekend at the Boise State Fall Classic. Wilhelm and Jackson paired up for a runner-up finish in the "A" flight at the same tournament and will play together this week. Marin-Salcedo and Young will play together as will Katrein and Lineberry.

    The other Mountain Region teams joining the Falcons in Las Vegas are BYU, Boise State, Denver, Idaho, Idaho State, Montana, Montana State, Nevada, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, UNLV, Utah, Utah State and Weber State.
