Falcons Play Well at Balloon Fiesta
The Air Force men's tennis team performed well on the first day of the UNM Balloon Fiesta Classic in Albuquerque, N.M. Freshman Greg Ferry was the team's top performer, winning two singles matches to advance to the quarterfinals of flight "B".
Ferry opened the tournament with a 7-6, 6-2 victory over Brian Grooms of Northern Arizona, then beat Sammy Ramoni of New Mexico Military Institute, 6-2, 7-5. He will face Kalle Rosen of Denver on Saturday. Junior Justin Lau won his first match in flight "A", defeating Steven Flaks of Denver, 7-6, 6-3, before taking the tournament's No. 1-seed Andre Begemen of the College of Santa Fe to three sets. Begemen won the match, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1. Junior keith Cronican and sophomore Ryan White posted AFA's lone doubles win in the main draw, pulling out a 9-7 victory over Ramoni and Sammy Tesimu of NMMI. The tournament continues Saturday with two singles rounds and two doubles rounds.
