Shannon Buck Advances to Round of 16 at All-American Championships
Air Force senior Shannon Buck cruised to a pair of victories Thursday at the 2005 Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Men's Tennis Championships in Tulsa, Okla. The unseeded Buck opened the tournament with a decisive, 6-2, 6-2 upset over the 12th-seed, Tom Eklund of South Carolina, then defeated the 31st-ranked player in the country, Rohan Gajjar of Arkansas, 6-2, 6-0, in the second round.
Buck, the 28th-ranked player in the country, will face the only freshman in the field, Stanford's Matt Bruch, who upset the nation's No. 2-ranked player, Ludovic Walter of Duke, 6-4, 6-2 in the second round. Buck and Bruch, who met in the opening round of the doubles qualifying round of this year's tournament, play in the round of 16 on Friday at 11 a.m. (CT). The winner moves on to the quarterfinals and will automatically qualify for the ITA National Indoor Championships, held Nov. 3-6 at the Ohio State University. Buck has equaled his best finish at the tournament, as he also advanced to the round of 16 last season.
