Air Force Opens Season at HEB Baylor Invitational

Three members of the Air Force men's tennis team will compete at the eighth annual Baylor HEB Intercollegiate Invitational this weekend at the Baylor Tennis Center in Waco, Texas. Juniors Brett Rodgers and Austin Francis and freshman Cody Hall will participate for the Falcons. Rodgers led the team with 14 overall singles victories last season, including 11 dual match wins at the No. 1 position. He had a seven-match winning streak during the season and was named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week. Francis, meanwhile, tied for second on the squad last season with 12 singles wins and played the majority of the season at the No. 2 spot. Hall joins the Falcons after a stellar high school career. He is the only player in the history of New Mexico to win four consecutive Class5A state singles championships. He was ranked No. 1 in New Mexico and 34th in the Southwest Region last year. This year's tournament consists of 19 schools with over 100 student-athletes participating. The field includes 22 players currently ranked among the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) national pre-season rankings including 11 of the top 50 and three of the top 10. In addition to an impressive singles draw, six of the competing doubles teams are ranked in the ITA's national pre-season poll. The tournament will consist of two 64-player singles draws, flight A and B, as well as a 32-team doubles draws in both flights A and B. There will be consolation for flight A singles. Teams joining Baylor and Air Force include: Arkansas, Fresno State, Nevada, New Mexico State, Oklahoma State, Portland, Rice, TCU, Texas A&M, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas Tech, Tulsa, UL-Lafayette, Texas, UT-Arlington, UT-San Antonio and Wichita State.
