Buck Falls in Three Sets in DU Invitational Final
Air Force senior Shannon Buck lost his first match of the 2005-06 season Sunday, dropping a three-set match to the University of Denver's Adam Holmstrom in the finals of the DU Invitational. Holmstrom, ranked 44th in the country, beat the 28th ranked Buck, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
"Both guys played well today," said Air Force head coach Rich Gugat. "It was a heck of a match with some unbelievable shots. Holmstrom was just a little more athletic today than Shannon." Buck rolled into the finals with four consecutive straight-set victories before facing Holmstrom. Buck's next competition is in the main singles draw at the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tournament in Tulsa, Okla., beginning on Thursday, Oct. 6. He will pair with senior Trevor Johnson to play in the qualifying bracket of the doubles draw, which begins on Monday, Oct. 3. The rest of the Falcons will travel to Albuquerque, N.M., for the UNM Balloon Fiesta, which will take place Oct. 7-9.
