Two members of the 2009-10 Air Force men's tennis team, Brett Rodgers and Sam Barnes, have been named to the 2010 Academic All-Mountain West Conference team. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team. This is the second academic all-conference honor for Rodgers and the first for Barnes.
Rodgers, who graduated from the Academy in May, played the majority of the '10 season at the No. 4 singles and No. 1 doubles positions. He combined with sophomore Taylor Soster to produce a 21-12 overall doubles record and a 14-8 mark at the No. 1 spot. Rodgers graduated with a 3.19 cumulative GPA in management.
Barnes, meanwhile, went 4-7 overall in singles play during his freshman season. He also won 10 overall doubles matches. Barnes recorded a 3.01 GPA during his first year at the Academy and is majoring in systems engineering aeronautics.
A total of 760 student-athletes, including 56 from the Academy, were named to the spring 2010 Academic All-Mountain West Conference team. Spring sports include baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, softball, men's and women's swimming and diving, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's track and field.
