Three members of the 2008-09 Air Force men's tennis team, Brett Rodgers, Cody Hall and Will Brown, have been named to the 2009 Academic All-Mountain West Conference team. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team. This is the first academic all-conference honor for each player.
Rodgers, who will be a senior this upcoming season, played the majority of the '09 season at the No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles positions. He combined with sophomore Taylor Soster to produce a 12-6 record at No. 2 doubles and led the team with 15 overall doubles victories. Rodgers has a 3.18 cumulative GPA in management.
Hall, the team's MVP as a freshman this past season, led the Falcons with 16 overall and 12 dual match singles wins. He went 11-9 at the No. 2 spot and advanced to the semifinals of the Lobo Balloon Fiesta Classic last fall. Hall, who has yet to declare a major, currently has a 3.10 cumulative GPA.
Brown, meanwhile, went 4-4 in singles play during the spring, with all eight matches at either the No. 5 or 6 position. He also posted a 7-9 overall record in doubles as a freshman. Brown recorded a 3.13 GPA during his first year at the Academy and is majoring in legal studies.
A total of 772 student-athletes, including 71 from the Academy, were named to the spring 2009 Academic All-Mountain West Conference team. Spring sports include baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, softball, men's and women's swimming and diving, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's track and field.
