USAFA, Colo. -
Air Force junior Shannon Buck will play Josh Cohen of the University of Miami on Wednesday, May 25 in the first round of the 2005 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Singles Championships, the NCAA announced today. Buck and Cohen, a sophomore, will face off at 12:30 p.m. (CT) at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center on the campus of Texas A&M in College Station, Texas. The winner of that match will face the winner of the match featuring the No. 2 seed, Sam Warburg of Stanford, and Izak van der Merwe of Old Dominion in the second round of the 64-player, single-elimination tournament on Thursday, May 26. Buck, from Spokane, Wash., is one of four players selected from the Mountain Region by the region's selection committee. Also representing the region are Henner Nehles of UNLV, Luke Shields of Montana State and Adam Holmstrom of Denver. Buck, ranked No. 67 in the country, finished the regular season with a 25-2 overall record and a 21-1 mark in dual matches, all at the No. 1 position. He defeated all five MWC opponents he faced and enters the tournament with a 17-match winning streak. Buck is the first Air Force player to participate in two separate NCAA Singles Championships. He lost in the first round two years ago as a freshman.
