Falcons Drop MWC Opener to Utah, 4-3


    The Air Force men's tennis team dropped its Mountain West Conference opener Friday, losing to the University of Utah, 4-3, in Provo, Utah.

    The Utes were the first to get on the scoreboard by winning the doubles point. At No. 1, Miron Mann teamed up with Zach Ganger to defeat Shannon Buck and Justin Lau, 8-2. Tomasz Grzyb and Dan Mascall beat Trevor Johnson and Robby Alexander, 8-2, at No. 3.

    Utah tallied three singles wins to defeat the Falcons. At No. 3, Mann downed Johnson, 6-4, 6-3 while Nick Coutts picked up a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Chris Dong at No. 4. At No. 5, Jason Yap beat Lau 6-2, 6-2.

    The Falcons (16-5) won the top two singles matches as Buck improved to 20-2 overall and 16-1 at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Grzyb, while Tyler McClung won the No. 2 match over Ganger, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2. Robby Alexander beat Ryan Scott at No. 6, 7-5, 6-3.

    Air Force plays BYU on Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m.
