Men's Tennis Takes on Hawai'i in Double-Header

THIS WEEKEND: The Falcons (6-2) travel deep into the Pacific for non-conference double-header action against the University of Hawai’i, Feb. 17-18.  Action is slated for noon on both days.

LAST TIME THEY MET: In March of 2011, the University of Hawai`i men's tennis team handed Air Force a 7-0 loss at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Warriors opened with wins at all three doubles matches to claim a 1-0 lead. The closest match was at the No. 2 spot, where Taylor Soster and Lucas Marin-Salcedo lost 8-7(3) to Jeremy Tweedt and David Schuster.

In singles action, the Rainbow Warriors claimed victory on all six courts. Dennis Lajola took down Lance Wilhelm, 6-2, 6-3, at the No. 1 position, while Tweedt defeated Marin-Salcedo, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2. The Falcons pushed the Nos. 4 and 5 matches to three sets, but freshman Alex Grubbs fell to Dmytro Kovalyov, 2-6, 7-5, (10-6), while fellow frosh Steven Young lost to Schuster, 6-1, 6-7(6), (10-4).

LAST TIME OUT: Air Force picked up a pair of wins in the top-two positions of singles action in the 5-2 loss to the University of Denver, Saturday afternoon in Denver, Colo.  Patrick Sklenka put a strong performance on display in the No. 1 position as he added the Falcons’ first point with a straight-set win over Mattias Ros, 6-4, 6-4.  Isaac Perez notched the second point for the Falcons with a straight-set win over Eric Morris in the No. 2 position, 7-5, 6-3.

UP NEXT: Air Force returns to the home slate with a pair of matches next weekend.  On Fri., Feb. 23, the Falcons will host Richmond at 5 p.m.  On Sunday, Feb. 25, Air Force will take on UC Riverside at 9 a.m. Both duals will be held in the Indoor Tennis Courts of Cadet Gymnasium.
