The Air Force men's tennis team plays its first Mountain West match of the season on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 2 p.m., against the New Mexico Lobos in Albuquerque, N.M. The Falcons are 6-1 this season after winning a pair of matches at home last weekend over Metro State (6-1) and North Dakota (7-0).
Air Force's 6-1 record is the best start since beginning the 2005 season 7-0. UNM holds a 36-3 advantage in the all-time series and has won the last 11 matches, dating back to a 5-2 upset win by the Falcons at the 2005 Mountain West Tournament in san Diego, Calif.
Senior Steven Young leads the Falcons with nine singles victories this season, followed by senior Alex Grubbs and sophomore Andrew Parks with eight apiece. In doubles, Young and senior Andy Jackson are 4-3 at the No. 1 spot, while Grubbs and sophomore Jack McCullers are 5-1 at No. 2 and junior Grant Taylor and freshman Lucas Fumagalli are a perfect 6-0 at the No. 3 position.
